Lawn Renovation

LAWN RENOVATION PROGRAM

This program is for those lawns that are beyond treatment help. Lawns that are full of weeds, crabgrass, junk grass, insect damage, disease damage, extremely poor soil conditions and neglected lawns, etc..

With these type lawns, we put the lawn through an entirely different process than just organic fertilization. The renovation process is as follows:

Note: This entire process is all Organic
Step#1: A complete soil test. To see 7 identical “Soil Health” problems that will need to be corrected.
Step#2.(April-June): all based upon the soil test report:  Soil booster treatment consisting of Humic acids, to start the process of biologically aerating the soil. micro-organisms, to introduce life back into the soil. Bio Stimulants, to increase root development, Liquid compost to increase organic matter (The life blood of any soil)
Step#3 (June-July):  Same treatments as above.
Step#4 (August-September) Total kill off of your lawn using “Burn-out which consists of vinegar +clove oils.
Step#5 (September-October)  Complete slice seeding of your lawn with Tall fescue or other hybrid grasses is introduced. Treatments of step 2 or 3 included. (See Seeding).
Note: No removal of the dead grass is necessary as it will decompose back into the soil.
Step#6 (October-December) Special organic “Lawn winterizer fertilization” to protect the new lawn from any winter kill.

Now look at the series of pictures at the right. The top picture shows the lawn completely killed off with the “Burn-Out” The next picture shows the lawn only 2 weeks after it’s been seeded (Looks terrible Right?)  The next picture shows the new lawn after 1 month.  The next picture shows a close up of another renovation. If you look closely, you will see the new grass growing in rows. As time goes by, these rows will grow and fill in. The final picture shows the new lawn 1 year later.

The advantages of having Renovation of your lawn is:
1.The soil will be improved and made productive “before” the lawn is seeded.
2. All weeds, junk grass, wrong grass is killed off.
3. A new Hybrid disease/insect resistant grass is introduced that will not only make for a beautiful lawn, it will be easier to maintain.
4. Is much cheaper than traditional methods!

SHADY LAWN PROGRAM

Getting the grass to grow in heavy shade lawns is very difficult. 98% of this condition seeding ends up in failure. Probably more shade grass seed is sold to homeowners than all other types of seeds combined.

The reason most “shade Grass” seedings fail is lack of sunlight as most grasses love semi-shade to Full sun. But with that said, most homeowners and Lawn care professional do not think of testing the soil and then improving the soil “before” doing any seeding. They also use the same High nitrogen fertilizers that they use on sunny lawns. A BIG MISTAKE Using High nitrogen fertilizers will create “Shoot Growth” at the expense of “Root Growth” With heavy shade lawns the less nitrogen that is applied the better!  Look at the top picture on the right. It shows a heavy shade area that the gardener seeded at least 4 times, all of which Failed !

I was called in, and at the top right shows before I started and 2 weeks after I seeded. As you can see, the new lawn is coming in excellent with a 90% germination rate. The bottom picture, shows another customer’s shade lawn that has stayed Healthy this way for 20 years!. How did I do it?  Below is the shady lawn program that works 98% of the time.

THE SHADY LAWN PROGRAM
Step #1: A complete soil test
Step #2; (Mid April-May) Slice seed the entire lawn with a good grass blend high in fescue. Then we apply an organic low nitrogen “starter fertilizer” such as 14-18-4 (high in Pot ash & Phosphorus) Plus we apply a soil booster with Humic Acids to “bioareate” the soil.  A bio-stimulant to increase Root mass & depth. Micro-organisms to re-introduce life activity to the soil. Lime to neutralize soil acid is also applied.
Step#3: (June -July) Same treatments as above, but no seeding.
Step#4: (August-September)  Slice the entire lawn again with a grass mixture with different types of fescues.+ the same treatments as steps 2 or 3
Step#5: (October-December)  We apply organic fertilizers that a “Winterize”  the lawn, which helps protect the new lawn against any winter kill. Lime is also applied to neutralize any soil acid.
Note: With some heavily shaded lawns, assorted tree pruning is advised.
Note; With heavily shaded lawns, the watering is completely different for sunny lawns  (See Watering your lawn”)
Note: Do not use sod! It will fail completely after one year!
