CONTROLLING GRUBS

There are many types of grubs that may attack your lawn. The most common grub is the Larvae of Japanese beetles. There is a lot of misinformation about when the grubs attack your lawn. The T.V. ads, gardening shows, etc… lead you to believe it is during the spring months.  That is wrong!  Yes, you will see some grubs as you do your spring gardening chores. These are usually the adult grubs that really  do not attack your lawn at this time.  By June, they turn into Japanese beetles, and these will attack your Roses, etc.. during the summer months. It’s the young grubs (The babies) when they hatch out, that will attack your lawn during the fall months! These “Babies” eat your grasses root system, dis-connecting the grasses roots from the soil, leaving the grass to die. These areas brown out, and the dead grass pulls up easily.
(See picture at right).

Spring treatments of any grub control is a waste of your money!  It will kill some of the adult grubs (About 10%) that’s all. The eggs are too deep in the soil for any pesticides to kill them. Every spring, all across America, toxic pesticides will be sprayed upon millions of acres of Turf, needlessly!

If you observe a lot of birds (Especially Crows) feeding on your lawn, or small-large diggings (from skunks or Raccoons looking for grubs) on your lawn during the late summer months or anytime during the fall months right up until November, or your green grass starts to discolor, then this is usually a result from Grubs.

Healthy & Happy Lawns controls grubs with Nematodes. Nematodes, are microscopic worms that attack and will destroy 90% of any Grubs!  Nematodes are 100% safe! They are also E.P.A. exempt!  Meaning, they are so safe, the federal E.P.A. doesn’t even register them!  So why doesn’t everybody use them? (See Pesticide info).

Traditionally, besides the spring months, toxic pesticides to control Grubs are again applied during June/July. This application will only destroy 5% of any grubs, as most of them have already turned into Japanese beetles. Again, this is the wrong time! Millions of gallons of these toxic pesticides are sprayed during the wrong time period to control Grubs!

The best and only time to control Grubs is from  late August-November, when the baby grubs are actively on your lawn.
