The choices and the path we take affects us all. Canada has now taken the right path. Europe too! The United States has not. But each year my service and other organic lawn services are growing. More & more homeowners are. I hope this very informative Website helps you to take the right path.
Everybody wants a very green thick weed free lawn! For the past 5 decades using chemical fertilizers & pesticides has been the norm. Using these products usually improves lawns fast! They do! 98% of homeowner’s today apply chemicals & pesticides to improve their lawns. But at what cost? The cost for unneeded services such at aerating or detaching, or the cost of polluting our environment? Or the most important, the health cost! We now know, with proven facts, that lawn care chemicals today especially pesticides, are ruining peoples and pets health! “Why did Canada, ban all known lawn care chemicals & pesticides we still use today”? Why? Why does Europe not use any lawn care chemicals or pesticides. Only Organic? We know the dangers, but we still use them! Why? because we are impatient people, and want results now! It’s not just about lawn care any more. It’s really about our children, our grand children, and our ever polluting environment! Look at the top right picture. 1. It’s fast, simple and deemed less expensive 2. Gets rid of weeds fast 3. Greens up the lawn fast! 4. It’s popular, Your neighbors use them 5. Gets rid of lawn bugs fast! Disadvantages: 1. synthetic fertilizers pollute our streams and lakes 2. Does not improve the soil. 3. Pollutes the soil with chlorides(Salt) Which hardens the soil. 4. More watering is then needed. 5. Pesticides kill everything from insects, good or bad, microbes bacteria, earthworms, and anything else it comes in contact with. 6. Can cause damage to human & pets health 7. Lawn must be posted after every treatment . Some towns require neighbor prior notification. 8. Over many years, in this Organic lawn care business, I’ve heard; Organic fertilizer smells. They’re slow to work. You can’t get rid of weeds. And the biggest misconception is; They’re expensive! Well nothing could be further from the truth! Most homeowners want the lawn pictured on the top left. It’s super green and thick with no weeds. Right next to it, “supposedly” is a brown Organic lawn! This picture was in a brochure of a Traditional (Chemical) lawn care service competitor.
This is what they want to lead you to believe! Like I said elsewhere in this Website, I’ve been in the lawn care business for over 35 years. In the beginning of those years (approximately 10 years) I’ve treated lawns with chemicals & pesticides and found that lawn’s treated organically turned out far superior! Now look at the next two pictures, The top one shows a lawn that was treated for over 7 years with a “famous” chemical lawn care service! Look at it, it’s ruined! This is what they don’t show you in their T.V. Ads. You might think this is an isolated incident. Heck no! I’ve seen hundreds of these over the years! Traditional lawn care ruins as many lawns as they create beautiful lawns! Now look at the bottom picture, This is the same lawn treated with Organics! 2 years later, with NO SEEDING!
This customer of mine has now been using my organic services for over 20 years! 98% of my customers have been using my service for over 10 years! Now that’s the difference. Anybody can make a green lawn fast, with today’s high nitrogen fertilizers, but the lawns don’t last very long! 90% of the calls I receive each spring are from homeowners that have used 4-6 chemical lawn care services! They never received the “Permanent” results they’ve been looking for. Why do you think? The chemical lawn care services have to advertise so much! They lose a lot of customers. Plus most homeowners are leery about the Pesticides they’re using..
If Organics do not work, Why then am I still in business with hundreds of satisfied customers? And my company continues growing each year? If they smell, Why don’t I receive any complaints from my customers? Yes, we can get rid of weeds with natural weed control methods and control is way more permanent (see Weeds) With Organic treatments, you will not have to pay for: Expensive and useless “Core Aeration”, “Detaching” , “Fungus Controls” or “Topdressing” (Please see Thatch, Disease control, Poor soils & seeding). How come so many “Chemical” Lawn Care services , a re now offering an Organic Lawn care program? when 5 years ago they didn’t? (See “How Organics Work Part 2″).
WHAT PRICE DOES ONE PAY FOR ONE”S HEALTH?
Traditional lawn care only treats the grass; period. They do not treat the soil at all! These companies know by using “Excessive” amounts of very high nitrogen (the element that greens up your grass) fertilizers they will accelerate grass growth (Working against nature) to rapidly green up your grass to give you “Fast cosmetic results” feeding on most homeowners craving for “Instant Gratification”. Then they use “Excessive’ amounts of Herbicides(Weed killers) to get rid of your weeds fast. This simple “Weed & Feed” method does appear to improve your lawn. However, since they’re not addressing the soil which your grass grows in, problems start to occur. In a very short period of time. they then (after a lot of excuses) sell you on Expensive services such as: Aeration, Detaching, fungus/Insect controls etc. Then this inexpensive lawn service, becomes very expensive. This has been “The Norm” for the past 5 decades. With all this expense to the homeowner, they cancel service, and sign up with “another traditional lawn service” and the cycle of failure begins again!
Organic lawn care treats both the grass and the soil at the same time. Any problems in your “Grass health” is addressed, and any “Soil health ” problems (From the soil test) are addressed.. If you take care of the soil that the grass grows in, the grass will now feed from the newly enriched soil. The grass will become much more greener & healthier. Plus, we’re working with nature, instead of against it. As the lawn becomes more stronger, healthier and the soil becomes looser and less compacted, the grass begins to spread & thicken crowding most weeds . Please look the picture on the right. It shows on the left, a grass plug taken from a lawn treated with chemicals. To the right of it, shows a grass plug taken from a lawn treated with organics. Guess which one will have a healthier lawn? A healthy, strong lawn can ward off lawn fungus and insects with ease. Making for a lawn that does not need any toxic herbicides, fungicides or pesticides.
