Drought Lawns
Any lawn service, chemical or organic, when improving or maintaining a lawn must always work in and around the weather. Our lawns are made up of
“The cool season variety” meaning these type grasses love cool moist weather. That’s why lawns always look their best in the spring, and again in the fall. During the normal hot summer months, they look alright so long as they are watered and mowed correctly.
But there are times when the weather is so extreme that all lawns turn brown and that is when there is a drought. All lawn services lose control to maintain a green lawn. When your lawn turns completely brown it is not dead, it goes dormant. This natural process actually protects your lawn from dying. Just like in the winter months (when people don’t really care about their lawn’s color) it goes dormant to protect your lawn from “winter kill”
During these drought times, homeowners get very dissatisfied with their lawn service regardless of the type of treatments applied. This is extremely unfair! Nobody can control the weather and there is not a fertilizer in the world, that can keep a lawn green when it hasn’t rained for months, plus the temperatures have stayed in the 90’s for a long period of time!
During this time, homeowners look around for another lawn service to keep their lawn green. They won’t find one! I call this time the “Switch-R-Roo” time. Switching lawn services again and again to find one to get it green again. I hear; “My lawn’s brown because we’re using a chemical lawn service”! or “My lawn’s brown because were using an organic lawn service”!
“You see I told you organics don’t work”! Etc. One of the reasons I created this Website is to: Educate the public not only just about organics but working under “Mother Nature’s” rules. Throughout my 35 years of taking care of lawns it never ceases to amaze me how people react when there is a drought and it’s nobody’s fault! They can’t blame “Mother Nature” so they blame their lawn service!
During drought times, it is best to stop watering, mow higher 3-4 inches and just ride it out as soon as the cool moist fall weather arrives. In time your lawn will recover back to normal.
